I'm Leslie and I'm reading your blog from my home in Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. I'm so glad that you've chosen to be a part of this program this summer, Moonlight. Good on you!
You've posted a beautiful photo of a monkey and created a great poster, indicating that the project you're most interested in has to do with trying to protect these creatures. They are very attractive animals, for sure! Did you have a toy monkey when you were little? Our grandson has one in his bed and now he likes it when we read him books about Curious George, the monkey, and his friend, the Man in the Yellow Hat. Perhaps you've read those books too.
When we use land for farming or industry instead of leaving the forests in place, we cause a lot of damage to the habitats of animals, birds, plants and insects, don't we? We have to be more careful and thoughtful about the pros and cons of the actions we take. I love wilderness so I feel deeply concerned every time I see forests being reduced.
Have you ever had a chance to see monkeys at the Auckland zoo? You'd probably love that.
I hope you're having some fun this summer, going to special places and being outside for lots of activity on your school break. And I hope you'll continue to work at the SLJ program - you're doing really well!!
