  1. Hi Moonlight,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my very wintry home in Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

I'm glad that you're working so hard at these activities. Good for you!

I see that you don't think there should be a restriction on the number of people allowed to visit Machu Picchu. I think the reason for the restriction is not that people have been disrespectful of the site, but rather that as people walk around the area there's a breakdown of the pathways and wear and tear on the stonework foundations of the ancient buildings. The hope is that the ruins will last longer if there are fewer people walking around them every year.

However, I can understand why you would feel that there might be very disappointed tourists if they wish to have this trip but are told that there have been too many other visitors this year.

Over-tourism is becoming a problem all around the world, I'm afraid. Perhaps we need to find a different way of experiencing the wonders of the world, a way that doesn't involve people crowding into sacred spaces or impacting on the wildlife in wild spaces. Hmmm... I wonder what alternatives we could come up with for healthier ways of 'visiting' special places....

Do you like to travel? Or are you happier at home?

Wherever you are this summer, I hope you're having a wonderful holiday time. And I hope you'll continue working on these activities. I'll continue to enjoy reading your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
