  1. Hi Moonlight,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. I love the picture you've posted of Auckland, including the Sky Tower and some of the harbour downtown. It looks lovely.

You suggest that Rainbows End is a favourite place of yours. What happens there? Is it an activity centre of some kind?

I'm surprised that you mention ice skating as something to do in New Zealand because I don't think of your temperatures being very low. This must be done in an indoor rink, I'm thinking.

I live in Canada and we have winter weather for up to 6 months of the year. That means that we have plenty of opportunities to skate on our frozen lakes or ponds, and to also make ice rinks in our neighbourhood parks, if we want to. I grew up learning to skate on a backyard rink that my dad made every year. It took a fair bit of work but he didn't seem to mind and we had a lot of fun playing hockey and just skating around the rink. Weren't we lucky?

Are there other things you would like people to know about New Zealand, if they've never been there? You could talk about the kind of food that people eat, the kind of wild birds or animals that live on the north and south islands. You could talk about the different kinds of work people do - you have farmers and fishermen and people who are teachers and health professionals, I believe.

I'm glad that you like where you live - it does sound like a fun place!!

And I'm glad that you're participating in this Summer Learning Journey program this summer. Good for you!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
