Kia Ora and welcome to my blog
Today's post is very surprising for me because
I didn't know what the kauri Tree Looked like but I did know there was a Kauri Tree.
Your sincerely Moonlight Moala
Happy New Year! I hope you have been enjoying your holidays and the Summer Learning Journey. You have absolutely flown ahead. I am so proud to see the effort you are putting into each of your posts. I cannot wait to read the rest of the posts you have completed.
What a cool connection you have to Tane Mahuta as you are in the Kauri Team at May Road School. You are right, Tane Mahuta is a long way from here but it is still a fun road trip. According to google maps, it is 3.5 hours north of Auckland in the Waipoua forest. Many of the Summer Learning Journey participants from the Kaikohekohe cluster live close to Tane Mahuta, I am sure they have visited this magical tree before.
I read on the Department of Conservation website that according to Maori legends, Tane Mahuta is known as the son of Papatuanuku (the earth mother) and Ranginui (the sky father). This is why the beautiful tree is so tall because it is reaching up to his father.
What other interesting information did you read about Tane Mahuta?
