Kia ora Moonlight You have a good point about children having a three day week. Actually I think the teachers would agree with you! Unfortunately the Ministry of Education expects primary school children to be at school for 380 days a year. This is a legal requirement and we would be in big trouble if the school chose to have less days open for instruction. Plus - think of all the learning you would miss out on. Keep thinking about this argument though as you will come up with even more ideas. Thanks for sharing Ms Noakes
I loved hearing about the reasons why you would like a 3 day week. It was entertaining to read that you like going to school as it saves you from chores. That is very true. Personally, I would not have enjoyed a 3 day week as I loved the busyness of a school day and enjoyed being involved in all of the sports teams. If you were to cut the days down to 3 days a week you may not have time for all the subjects you learn. Which subjects would you like to keep?
What is your favourite activity to do at school? When I was visiting your class at May Road School, I was amazed at all the technology you have. This was something we did not have when I was at school. I would love to have the opportunity to learn how to blog and use Chromebooks for school work.
Wow, I really like that you thought to write two letters so you could make points for each perspective, good thinking. I think a three day school week would be great but like Ms Noakes pointed out, you’d miss out on a lot of learning. You’ve said that shorter school weeks would be fun, have you thought about something that might not be so great? Maybe later you could update your blog with your thoughts.
Personally I can’t say that a three day week doesn’t sound tempting, however I’m content with the way things are at the moment. I don’t think it’d be ideal for parents either, because a lot of them have to work during the days. So for now I’m against the idea of a three day week.
Just a reminder, there are a few days left to complete as many activities as you can before the programme ends on the 26th of January. Keep up the good work Moonlight, it’s been great reading your posts over the summer!
