  1. Hi Moonlight,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

I see that you've tried to figure out how many children would be needed to lift a 500 kg squid, if each child can lift 15 kg. You're correct that 33 children could lift 495 kg and that's almost the size of the squid. Adding one more child would mean that there would be more than enough strength, doesn't it? So I would think you meant to say that 34 children can do the job.

And you're correct that 20 adults would be able to lift 500 kg and that's the weight of the squid so 20 adults would be needed.

I'm not sure why you're saying 27 and 19 are the numbers of people you'd need. Also, you didn't mention that your first calculation was for children and the 2nd for adults. When you solve a maths problem you have to put all the information down, not just some of it. Ok?

Do you like maths? I do. It often seems like a puzzle or a game and that can be fun.

I'm glad you tried to solve this problem. It took some effort - good for you!

I'll continue to enjoy reading your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
